Dear All,

I have been pretty quiet on this forum the past few weeks. This is just a short update to let you know what I'm up to.

I have been busy working to build a monitoring tool that will integrate into the Java-monitor forum. That's right, you'll be able to monitor your application server's memory and thread usage right here on java-monitor.com.

Kees de Kooter said: release early and release often (http://java-monitor.com/forum/showpost.php?p=180&postcount=2). Well, that's what I'm going to go, so don't go and uninstall Nagios just yet. :-) I'll release a sneaky-peek version of the monitoring tool RSN (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_soon_now).

The monitoring service is going to be free to use. Installation will be dead simple (switch JMX on (http://java-monitor.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1) and drop java-monitor.war into your webapps folder) and configuration free. No hardware needed.

The forum will get a fresher look and feel, and I'll be introducing a few more topics to make looking for answers a little easier.

Meanwhile I have been talking to people to get some moderators out and into the field. Kees de Kooter has just started in that role (http://java-monitor.com/forum/showthread.php?t=51) and more moderators are on the way.

Soo... Lots of good stuff coming your way, so please bear with me for a little more, as I iron out the most glaring bugs.

Kees Jan

Sounds good, I'll be sure to use the monitoring tools.

What would really set apart monitoring tools for me would be the ability to extract trends and an estimated date when those trends would mean an SLA break.

(probability of not fulfilling the SLA > x% )

I could probably translate this to money easily and consider when to up or migrate... :)

Dear holeinone,

Hmm. Interesting thought. Could you please elaborate on how that would work?

I imagine you'd have to enter SLA figures in some way. What kind of figures are you thinking of? How do we relate that to (ultimately) mbean atttribute values?
